Paul S. McCormick engages the reader to reflect upon various aspects of existence through words and black-and-white photographs in his first release of poetry and images. He deftly guides the reader from struggles regarding faith to the brink of horror and chaos without offending the reader's sensibilities. Known for his spoken word performances, McCormick has successfully captured his live performance passion and reduced it to succinct moments of clarity in "a pause between steps." During an interview for an article published in The News Virginian (October 15th, 2010) promoting the release of his controversial novella, "The Physics of Madness," McCormick's writing style is described as "bearing the marks of painful editing and thoughtful omissions" and "sharp lines between...stillness and movement." McCormick blurs the distinction between minimalism and prose. Poetry and thought. What you experience within the pages of "a pause between steps" is calculated precision - a brief experience that lingers long after you put the book down.
