Mu is the story of a fourteen-year-old son of a stone-age cave-man. Mu feels it is time for him to leave home, and does so, setting off into the world, with the view to making a home of his own somewhere. This is a story of bravery, adventure and friendship. But it is more than that. This story is about the development and acquisition of language."Beware of Graydee-Man," Old Man told Mu. "Graydee-Man is a fierce wild man. He is tall, - taller than the highest branch of the weelibub tree. Graydee-Man can run like the wind. Graydee-Man is stronger than stripy-big-tooth. Graydee-Man will send Mu to Happy-Place. Graydee-Man will eat Mu. Graydee-Man will spit out Mu's bones." Mu sits quietly under a bush. Mu waits.
