Though the motifs and styles change from decade to decade, the Turkmen carpet remains the most arresting household ornament of Turkmenistan, and a traveler who spends any length of time in the country cannot fail to be fascinated by this art form. Well-known Turkmen author Hudayberdi Hallyev sets this novel among the craftswomen responsible for these creations. In addition to its other, universal themes, the book is also a love song to, and recollection of, these artists and their art. One of reading's joys is its ability to transport the reader to corners of existence previously unheeded, and this book does exactly this, allows the readers to meet the inhabitants of this world for a time.
